Historic Jamestowne Come explore the first permanent English settlement in America, and watch archaeologists in action. Jamestown Settlement Explore life-size re-creations of the colonist's fort and a Powhatan village, and tour a riverfront discovery area. Visitors can also board replicas of the three ships that sailed from England to Virginia in 1607. Colonial Williamsburg Visit the restored 18th-century capital of Virginia, and watch American History come alive on the eve of the American Revolution. Visit the Yorktown Battlefield Come explore the battlefield and fortifications that marked the climactic clash of the American Revolution. Tour the Yorktown Victory Center On October 19, 1781, the decisive military campaign of the American Revolution culminated with the British surrender at Yorktown. There are many other wonderful attractions in the area that you may want to include as part of your family vacation. The Busch Gardens and Water Country USA theme parks are in the area if you want to take a brief break from exploring history, and come back to the 21st century. If you can work it into your family vacation schedule, there are a few other historic attractions that are pretty close by.
