|California Redwoods - If you are looking for Redwoods in the state of California, one of the best places to
view them is on the North Coast just past Eureka. Here, you will find Redwood National Park, along with
several state parks: Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, and
Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.
Although most of us just refer to these tall, magnificent trees as "redwoods," there are actually three distinct
species: giant sequoia, coast redwood, and dawn redwood. Two of these are found in California. The giant
sequoia is found on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Central California and the coast
redwood is found on the Northern California Coast and southern coastal Oregon, while the dawn redwood is
found in central China.
Enjoy these pictures of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park that we took during a family trip, July of 2011.

On a previous trip we had seen some of the giant sequoias at Calaveras Big Trees State Park, but last
summer we were on our way up to the Oregon Coast and wanted to check out the coast redwoods along the
way. This area has much to offer. There is camping, many great hiking trails, scenic overlooks, beaches, and
tons of wildlife. In fact, there are several good areas to view herds of Roosevelt Elk. Unfortunately, on this trip
we didn't have much time to really explore the area and were only able to visit a small portion of Prairie
Creek Redwoods State Park and enjoy some of the many nice hiking trails.
