Grapevine Texas Family Fun
Grapevine, a great place to create vacation memories.
If you are traveling to the Dallas/Ft.Worth area for a vacation with
the kids you need to consider Grapevine, Texas as your base camp.
Grapevine is a great place to create family vacation memories. There is plenty for the whole family to do
and see. Grapevine is known as the number one festival and events destination in Texas.
Events in Grapevine
The events they are best known for are; the Grapefest which is the largest wine festival in the
southwest, Christmas Capital of Texas which spans 40 days, Main Street Fest, a 3 day family friendly
festival and the Summer Blast which includes many events and exhibits throughout the summer months.
Grapevine is busting at the seams with restaurants. This trip we
chose to visit some locally owned restaurants. For dinner we selected
Amore, Pasta and Pizza, a quaint old-guard Italian dining in a casual,
family-friendly style. We were greeted by the owner and then sat at a simple
table. The tables beside us were of varied sizes with a variety of parties.
One was a family fresh off the soccer field. Another table sat a young
couple obviously with eyes only for each other. Another had a young couple
with their children and grandparents. We felt like we were part of the
neighborhood which made the experience there cozy. The food was
delicious and the service perfect.
The Gaylord Texan Resort recently opened up their own outdoor water park on property which is
available Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. It features a lazy river, water slide, zip line and
more. The Texan is a beautiful hotel with winding walkways through a large interior atrium. We stayed
there on Valentine’s day and enjoyed a romantic walk through the hotel and stopped for coffee and ice
cream while sitting beside an indoor waterfall.
Grapevine wonderful historical downtown streets.
There is a clock tower, and historical landmarks and
statues. As you stroll down the street you can shop in quaint
shops, eat at a variety of cafés, learn about the local history
or browse through an art gallery. We enjoyed all the statues
and historical markers.
For breakfast we decided to go to the Snooty Pig Café. They are known
for their delicious food almost as much as they are known as the best
neighborhood spot to start each day.
Grapevine is home to several resort hotels;.
Great Wolf Lodge is recommended for families with young children. It hosts an indoor water park
complete with lazy river and slides. They have organized fun events for the kids and you have a choice
of rooms; the standard room or a themed suite featuring log cabin or wolf den.
Shopping at Grapevine Mills is just a few miles from downtown in a large mall area with several
unique stores. Your kids will love exploring in Legoland Discovery Center, Build a Bear Workshop,
and riding on an old fashioned carousel that is just right for children of all ages to enjoy! For the
sportsman there is a Bass ProShop and for mom, plenty of clothing and accessory stores.
Grapevine has all the makings of a wonderful place to stay on your next family vacation. If you do not
find the activities you want in Grapevine just go 10 minutes to Arlington for professional baseball, Six
Flags or Hurricane Harbor. Still need more? Venture over to Ft. Worth and take in the Stock Yards, or
just 15 miles away to watch a Nascar Race.
Who knows, this could be your favorite family vacation yet!
You can pick up a train ride to the Ft Worth Stockyards from the Grapevine Vintage Railroad in the
downtown district. You can ride in a 1920’s Victorian Coach which is pulled by either an 1896 steam
locomotive or a 1953 diesel engine. The train station honors our military with a statue of the famous
goodbye to our loved servicemen statue.
